Abstract
This paper meditates about the power, the speech and hegemony of media, considering its usage in education. The discussion has its basis on the statements made by Norman Fairclough about technologization of discourse, a concept introduced by him in the study Speech, change and hegemony (1998) and that can be related to consumption and media. The media is mentioned by the author when he talks about the speech practices of advertising discourse, the technologization of discourse and how it can be used by dominant social forces. In this paper, Fairclough’s conceptions meets other studies about media and Education. His considerations about media discourse are associated to Fischer’s perceptions on the theme; to talk about power, media and Education, Fairclough’s statements are confronted by Melo and Tosta’s ideas; his comments on Cultural Studies dialogue with the author Ianni and the relation between language and media is also analyzed by Bourdieu’s range of view. This discussion also makes considerations about texts from Dionísio and Chartier that examine the relation between reader and literature. It also meditates about media, speech and Music Education.
