Inexistem documentos que comprovem a autoria de todas as pinturas dos véus quaresmais daquela cidade. Os véus quaresmais, cuja função litúrgica está associada às celebrações da semana santa católica, são tradicionalmente adornados na cultura alemã. Não se sabe como essa tradição chegou à colônia portuguesa da América. Naquela cidade existe ainda a figuração de quatro sibilas contornadas por falsas colunas com cariátides, no teto de uma igreja. As profetisas pagãs foram incorporadas pelo cristianismo desde os seus primórdios.A sua pintura é atribuída a um discípulo de José Soares de Araújo, pintor português que trouxe para a colônia o ilusionismo e a falsa arquitetura influenciados por Andrea Pozzo. O objeto desse trabalho é mostrar a influência do tratado de Andrea Pozzo também nos falsos nichos das pinturas dos véus quaresmais de Diamantina, atribuídas ao pintor Caetano Luiz de Miranda, outro discípulo de Araújo, que possuía um tratado daquele jesuíta, registrado no seu inventário.<br>Palavras-chave: Quadratura, véus quaresmais, sibilas.<br>Abstract: In Diamantina, in the North east of Minas Gerais, there are Lenten veils from the 18th and early 19th centuries adorned with sibylsinsid estructuresof false architecture. There are no documents to prove the author shipof all the paintings of Said veils. In the German culture, Lenten veils, Whose liturgical role is associated with the celebrations of the Catholicholy week, are traditionally adorned. However, how this tradition reached the Portuguese colony in Americais still unknown. In Diamantina, another four representations of sibyls are to be found surrounded by false columns with caryatids, on the ceiling of a church. These pagan prophetesses have be em incorporated by Christianity since its early days. Their depiction in the painting is attributed to a disciple of José Soares de Araújo, a Portuguese painter Who brought to the colony illusionis mand false architecture, influencedby Andrea Pozzo.
