Helena Augusta e a construção da geografia sagrada no cristianismo tardo-antigo

Resumen

Este artigo analisa o papel de Helena Augusta na consolidação do cristianismo como religião central do Império Romano durante o século IV, com ênfase na institucionalização do culto às relíquias e na construção da geografia sagrada do império. Partindo da contextualização das transformações religiosas e políticas promovidas após o Édito de Milão (313), o estudo examina como Helena, por meio de sua peregrinação à Terra Santa, da descoberta da “vera cruz” e da fundação de santuários como o Santo Sepulcro e a Basílica da Natividade, contribuiu para a legitimação do poder cristão e para a reconfiguração simbólica do espaço imperial. Utilizando fontes patrísticas e historiográficas, demonstra-se que a atuação de Helena não foi apenas devocional, mas estratégica, articulando fé, maternidade imperial e autoridade política na consolidação da identidade cristã imperial.
