Abstract

Introduction: The Global Operative Assessment of Laparoscopic Skills (GOALS) is a tool that has been developed, validated, and proven effective in assessing the skills acquired in laparoscopy and the efficacy of the proposed training. The transcultural adaptation, with all its stages, is crucial for the dissemination of its use.

Objective: To perform the transcultural adaptation of the GOALS questionnaire to the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil, followed by its application to residents in Gynecology and Obstetrics.

Methods: A descriptive, transcultural adaptation research with a quantitative approach was conducted at the Gynecological Endoscopy department of the Escola Paulista de Medicina – UNIFESP. After the transcultural adaptation, the tool was applied in a pilot test including Gynecology and Obstetrics residents, before and after surgical training in videolaparoscopy.

Results: The final version, translated and adapted of GOALS, resulted in five domains for individual assessment: depth perception, bimanual dexterity, procedural efficiency, tissue handling, and autonomy. Among the evaluated criteria, before and after the training with simulated resources, only bimanual dexterity did not show a significant increase in the participants' scores.

Conclusion: The results of this content validation are useful for assistance, teaching, and research, as they allow for the offering of a standardized instrument to measure technical skill in videolaparoscopy, enabling international comparisons.
