Health Literacy of Nursing Students at a Federal University in Western Amazonia.

Introduction: Health literacy is increasingly important in the health education process, since it promotes autonomy in the behaviors and decisions that individuals demonstrate in promoting health in their daily lives.
Objective: To analyze the level of health literacy of nursing students at the Fundação Universidade Federal de Rondônia (UNIR).
Methods: This is a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional research conducted from October 2023 to January 2024, using non-probabilistic sampling to select the study population. The outcome variable and multiple predictor variables were modeled using regression analysis.
Results: The results showed that 42.5% of students are below the average of 52 health literacy points, suggesting that there is a learning gap than what we expected from Nursing students. These findings can give clues to teachers that this theme should be in the curricular components from the first periods, to competently prepare students for the practice of nursing care in clinical settings.
Conclusion: It is essential to take actions to improve the course curriculum, meeting the needs of students in matters related to public health, such as Health Literacy, highlighting the complexity of the topic.
