Abstract

A relevant factor to be studied in mining is the Average Haulage Distance (AHD). It is known that about 60% of the significant cost in the operating budget arises from hauling ore to the mineral processing plants and the waste rock to the waste rock dump. This, mining companies are undergoing a cost-benefit analysis to reduce costs. This paper seeks to show, how significant it is to carry a study out the AHD to have shorter distances between front mine to the ore processing plants, in addition to a control on fuel consumption of transport equipment. An improved DMT study promotes an improvement in production and, consequently, in profit, thus favoring the entire production scale. The study carried out used as a basis an analysis through data collections with the help of GPS, for comparison in the AHD traveled and the time spent between the two pathways of the trucks from the mining front to the primary crusher. After the implementation of improvements in the mine's access road, there was a reduction in fuel costs and less wear on tires. The cycle times after the path optimization also show that the production and productivity of ore increased, even operating with one less piece of equipment.
