PUBLIC POLICIES AND THE FIGHT AGAINST PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS IN BRAZIL

Abstract

Psychological violence against women and girls is a silent and devastating reality. Without leaving physical marks, it undermines self-esteem, robs freedom, and traps victims in cycles of fear and insecurity. This study investigates this form of violence in Brazil, analyzing its structural roots and legislative advances, such as the Maria da Penha Law and Law 14.188 of 2021. The objective is to assess the effectiveness of public policies in combating this violence and identify the challenges that hinder their effective implementation. To achieve this, a qualitative and quantitative approach was used, based on a literature review and analysis of secondary data from recent research. The results indicate that, despite legal advancements, psychological violence remains normalized and invisible. Many victims do not recognize the abuse they suffer, while others face difficulties when seeking help. The lack of training among security and healthcare professionals also hinders adequate support, highlighting the urgent need for investment in training and educational campaigns. Addressing this type of violence requires more than just punishment: it is necessary to transform culture, educate society, and strengthen support networks for victims. Only through awareness and the expansion of protection services can we ensure that no woman or girl feels alone in the face of this reality.
