O corpo na contemporaneidade

Abstract

The objective of this text is to promote a reflection on how the body in contemporary times has been constituted as a form of social organization and how this affects the constitution of the psyche. To do this, we resort to studies by Birman (2014) and Foucault (1998, 2005, 2010).  The search for an ideal body has affected the ways in which individuals relate and place themselves in the world based on expectations about the perfect body. Television media and, more recently, social networks are building a type of “authority”, which is based on excessive exposure and highlights the search for the ideal body, based on aesthetic standards that are often unattainable.
