Abstract

The Intelligent Design (ID) movement suppose the evolution having been projected by some intelligent supernatural force, has spread throughout the world, despite its non-recognition by science. The starting point for the discussion is the publication of an invitation letter in a Brazilian scientific journal. It demonstrates the incoherence of this letter and how it reveals that the leading Brazilian and American exponents of this thought elaborate a deformed mixture of science and religion. It is concluded that this type of publication in an academic journal is harmful to scientific education, but it can reveal the fragility ID pseudoscientific discourse.

Heslley Machado Silva Silva, Centro Universitário de Formiga (UNIFOR/MG) e Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (UEMG)

Pós-doutor em Educação e Ciência pela Universidade do Minho, Portugal (2016). Doutor em Educação na Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2015), programa Latino-americano e linha de pesquisa Educação e Ciência, possui mestrado em Educação pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (2000), com especialização em Biotecnologia pela Universidade Federal de Lavras e especialização em Biologia Celular e Molecular pela Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto. Graduado em Ciências e Biologia pelo Centro Universitário de Formiga/MG. Atualmente é professor Titular I e pesquisador do Centro Universitário de Formiga/MG (UNIFOR/MG). Também é professor e pesquisador na Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (UEMG) - Unidade Ibirité/MG. Tem experiência na área de Biologia Geral, com ênfase em Embriologia, Genética, Evolução, Zoologia e coordenação de cursos de Ciências Biológicas. Experiência também na área da Educação, Ensino de Ciências e de Biologia. Tem coordenado vários projetos de pesquisa no campo da educação, ensino de evolução e saúde. Atua também como pesquisador do UNIFOR/MG, nas áreas de saúde, educação e evolução. Co-editor da revista multidisciplinar Conexão Ciência. Avaliador do MEC.
