ANALYSIS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ENDOMETRIOSIS PUBLIC POLICIES IN RIO GRANDE DO SUL: A PERCEPTION FROM THE STATE GOVERNMENT

Abstract

Endometriosis is a condition characterized by the growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus, manifesting in symptoms such as severe menstrual pain and infertility. In Brazil, it is estimated that one in ten women is affected, with significant impacts on quality of life and economic productivity, as the losses associated with the disease exceed the direct costs of treatment. Despite the relevance of the issue, there is a gap in studies on the implementation of public policies addressing endometriosis in the country. In this context, the present study analyzes the implementation of public policies for endometriosis in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which has had specific legislation on the topic since 2015. This qualitative and descriptive research is based on a document analysis of governmental acts from 2016 to 2024 and a survey conducted with women living with endometriosis in Rio Grande do Sul. The results reveal weaknesses in the implementation of the state policy, such as the absence of educational campaigns, shortcomings in the training of professionals, and an insufficient number of specialized facilities for diagnosis and treatment
