In the field of Education, we find discussions about different conceptions of literacy. In this article, we discuss notions of “scientific literacy” and “media literacy” and defend the need for an articulation between them to understand discourses about science that circulate in the media. We analyzed an example of news published in major newspapers at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic that stated, based on the results of scientific research, the possibility of exterminating the coronavirus through sun exposure. We conclude that, specifically in the Covid-19 pandemic and post-pandemic contexts, the need for articulation between scientific and media literacy becomes evident due to the multiplicity of semiosis that make up the information made available by mass media and the incompleteness of analysis that only one of the literacies provides us with to identify different aspects present in its contents.
