Language outside the Body in the costumes of the film “Dolls"

Abstract

In the following study we will investigate how clothing can be treat as a language, more specifically, as a language outside of the body. For this picture we will draw on text “Images and fashion”, by Roland Barthes and “The invention psychotic”, by Jacques-Alain Miller. Then through them try to understand how clothing can prove to be this language outside of the body. To exemplify a way that language can be located outside the body, turn to costumes worn by two characters in the movie “Dolls”, Japanese director Takeshi Kitano.
