Abstract

This experience report intends to present the management work carried out by this researcher during the period of a year and a half at the head of Espaço Cultural Escola de Design - UEMG, from its opening at the end of 2018 until its completion of the works of the school in 2020. Amidst a scenario of political uncertainty regarding the change of government and the doubt of the academic community regarding the delivery to UEMG of the new headquarters in Praça da Liberdade, the Cultural Space played an important political and cultural role, effectively marking the presence of the School in the Square through the appropriation of the space with the numerous activities such as exhibitions, events, courses and seminars, not giving rise to future contestations or the deviation from the function intended for the former IPSEMG building as the new headquarters of the School of Design - UEMG.

Author Biography

Yuri Simon Silveira, Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais

Doutorando (2020-2024) e Mestre (2015-2017) em Design pelo Programa de Pós Graduação em Design da Escola de Design - UEMG, com pesquisa em Design Cênico. Pós-graduado (2004) em Artes Plásticas e Contemporaneidade pela Escola Guignard -UEMG, com pesquisa em Cenografia Contemporânea e Graduado (1997) em Projeto de Produto pela Escola de Design - UEMG, onde é atualmente professor nas áreas
de Design e Percepção, Linguagem Visual e Design Cênico. Foi Coordenador de Extensão da Escola de Design no período de 2017 à 2020 acumulando o cargo
de Gestor do Espaço Cultural Escola de Design UEMG entre 2018 e 2020. Tem experiência nas áreas de Cultura, Design, Artes (com ênfase em Teatro). Atua como Produtor Cultural, Cenógrafo, Iluminador e Diretor de teatro.
