This article analyzes teaching practices in early literacy within the context of post-pandemic learning recovery (2022–2024), focusing on the municipality of Carangola-MG, Brazil. Grounded in the conception of literacy as a situated social practice, the study articulates the New Literacy Studies, Paulo Freire’s dialogical perspective, and the distinction between early literacy and literacy proposed by Magda Soares. Adopting a qualitative and interpretive approach, the research employs a triangulation strategy that integrates data from an institutional survey, narrative interviews with teachers, and literacy performance indicators. The results show that everyday school practices are shaped by teachers’ efforts to reconfigure the teaching of writing in response to heterogeneous classrooms, sociocultural inequalities, and structural constraints intensified in the post-pandemic context. These practices assume a hybrid character, combining strategies focused on mastering the writing system with actions that value orality and students’ lived experiences, varying according to teaching conditions: while urban contexts show a greater presence of collaborative support, rural contexts reveal a stronger incidence of material and institutional limitations. It is concluded that learning recovery in early literacy does not occur in a linear manner, being conditioned by concrete teaching conditions, educational inequalities, and teachers’ capacity for critical mediation. The study contributes by framing early literacy within a broader conception of literacy as a situated social practice, highlighting that learning outcomes are intrinsically linked to the social and pedagogical conditions in which they are produced.
