About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Revista Engenharia de Interesse Social (REIS) is a scientific journal devoted to the electronic dissemination of original articles and critical reviews of studies focused on the Engineering debate as a vector for social development. In its thematic scope, the REIS proposes a multi and interdisciplinary approach to Engineering actions, recognizing their implications in the environmental, economic, historical, cultural, political and institutional dimensions, as well as aspects related to sustainability, from a perspective that considers both human as well as social dimension.

The REIS began to be published in 2016 by the João Monlevade Unit of the Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais and, since then, it has adopted a policy of free access to all its content published through its platform on the World Wide Web.

Every semester, its editions are published at the end of June and December. Its target audience is researchers, University professors and students as well as professionals and formulators of public policies interested in the actions of Engineering.

The REIS accepts submissions of two types: original articles and book reviews. In both cases, the submission process must be initiated and accompanied by the journal's platform, where guidelines for authors are available. We accept texts in Portuguese, English and Spanish.

The REIS Editorial Policy uses the double blind peer-review process as a method, in which an Evaluation Committee, composed of masters and doctors, is responsible for evaluating the material submitted for publication in the journal without having knowledge of the authors of the texts.

Peer Review Process

Peer review

The review process is based on the concept of double blind peer-review, in which referees, all with master's or doctor's degrees, evaluate the content submitted for publication of the journal without having knowledge of its authors.

Reviewers

We have a database of evaluators from different Brazilian Higher Education Institutions, in addition to some other researchers who do not have links with institutions, but have great knowledge in the field of Engineering and other related topics.

With each new number we issue a nominal list of participation of the evaluators with their respective names and institutional links.

Evaluation process

The texts sent to REIS will undergo 2 evaluations. The first evaluation will be carried out by the editorial board, which will analyze the text based on the review of two criteria: presentation standards (desk review) and scientific adequacy to the focus and scope of the journal (scientific evaluation). From that first evaluation, an editorial decision will be made that may approve the text for peer review, or recommend the revision of the text, adapting to the rules, for a new presentation and later sending to the referees, or even rejecting the text for publication in REIS.

The second evaluation will be issued by reviewers, all with a master's or doctor's degree and with recognized experience in the thematic area.

The originals will be evaluated by two referees. In case of conflicting opinions, a third referee will be consulted to evaluate the work.

The results of evaluations can be of four types:

  1. accepted in full, without restrictions;
  2. rejected - not approved for publication;
  3. accepted in full, with some suggestions for change (in this case it is not necessary to return to the referee);
  4. Suggestions for changes and a new submission to the referee. The last case implies that the peer review found that the article may be published if the author makes some adjustments indicated in the review. The author can accept or not the suggested suggestions. However, he must comply with the recommendations, otherwise the text will be refused for publication. If the author accepts the changes indicated by the evaluators, the amended text will be submitted for review again.

The editors are responsible for the final editorial decision, based on texts evaluations.

Evaluation time

The received texts are placed in the text queue for evaluation. The texts that have been in the queue the longest will have priority in the evaluation. The estimated time for peer review is 90 days.

The editorial evaluation process is conducted by the editorial board as follows:

The editorial board asks the evaluator about his interest and availability to evaluate a text, considering the correspondence between the theme of interest and domain of the evaluator and the theme of the submitted text. The evaluator can accept or reject the invitation. Accepting the invitation, an evaluation form is made available, which must be completed and will be made available later to the authors as an evaluation.

Open Access Policy

The Revista Engenharia de Interesse Social offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater worldwide democratization of knowledge.

Guidelines for evaluators

The members of the REIS Evaluation Committee can carry out their evaluations based on the guidelines provided in the Evaluation Tutorial, which can be accessed through the link below. Suggestions and criticisms about this tool should be sent to revista.engenhariasocial@uemg.br.
