About teaching-learning in the context of the pandemic: what have we (not) learnt so far?

Abstract

The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus has affected several areas, including Education. As a result, classroom lessons were suspended and Emergency Remote Teaching (ERT) was started, in order to achieve physical/social distance as a way of combating the spread of the virus. So, it is in this context that this work fits. This is an experience report of teaching the English language in the ERT format in a class of high school students on a campus of a Federal Institute located in Pernambuco. We aim to report, analyze and reflect on teaching-learning processes during the pandemic, didactic-pedagogical materials used, virtual learning environments and actors involved: students and teacher(s). Through a qualitative research methodology, the results demonstrated the need for initial/continuous teacher training to work in these new environments, the need for greater student autonomy, adaptation and/or creation of teaching-pedagogical materials and the need to diversify virtual learning environments.
